Actually there are TWO Fandom Directories. The one here online is the free version which lists the online contact information for an individual, company, publication or organization. The online version of the Directory was begun in 1995, but the paper edition has been around since 1979. (Check out our back issue cover art gallery.) Since 1979, the Fandom Directory has grown to become the premiere networking tool for fans, collectors, dealers and stores; zine publishers, club members, convention organizers and attendees. The paper edition lists full addresses and phone numbers for over 20,000 listings and gives dates and locations for all the conventions. The online edition lists only those listings which have provided us their information.
The online edition was begun in 1995 because the information about peoples' email addresses and web sites was changing so fast that the paper edition really couldn't keep up with the number of changes. So, we built the online edition as a complement to the paper edition and moved all of the electronic contact information here.
In the popular language of the Internet, the Fandom Directory is an opt in list. No one is listed unless they ask to be listed. The information source is the individual, company, organization or publication that the information is about.
Because you haven't given it to us yet! See Where did the information come from? Or, if you prefer, you can send us an email containing the following information: (Fields with "*" are optional.)
Entries in the Directory are updated every day, but the information is only posted to the web site monthly at the start of each month. The printed Fandom Directory is published in even-numbered years (e.g., 1998, 2000, 2002) in March. Below is a sample listing from the online edition. You will notice that there is an "Updated" field just below the name. That field contains the month and year when we last received updated information. Each month, when we update the information on the website we purge all information older than 12 months. People whose information is about to be purged are notified and given two weeks to update their information and thereby avoid purging.
To see all your listings at once, all you need to do is go into the SEARCH option and enter your email address in the search field for email addresses. This will show all of your entries and only your entries. Each record has the date it was last updated on it, just below the name.
We have a Fandom Directory Sponsors program where you can be listed prominently on our Sponsors page and greatly increase your exposure here in the Directory. A text listing is only $25 for a full year. Add a logo for another $25. Or, you can "Buy a Letter" and display your banner for a full year at the top of one of our letter pages for only $150. Email us if you are interested in becoming a Fandom Directory Sponsor.
Classified ads are now FREE.
If you'd like to establish a link to the Fandom Directory from your web site, you can do so by entering code like the following on your page.
<A HREF="http://www.fandata.com">Fandom Directory</A> (Online Edition) - Your on-line link to Fandom around the world! Science Fiction, Star Trek, Comics, Trading Cards, Gaming and More! Point and click access to thousands of fan, collector, dealer, store, publisher, club and convention email addresses and web sites. Listings are FREE!
If you'd like to use a banner, download one of these images by clicking on it with your right mouse button (click and hold if you are using a Macintosh):

When you add a link, make sure you link to the main home page of the Fandom Directory (at http://www.fandata.com), rather than a particular sub-page. This will ensure that our accounting software gives you full credit for the link from your page.
Many folks have asked us to frame their entries in the way that Fandom Directory does, but you can put a simple command on your home page in the BODY tag to break your home page out of all frame sets, not only the Fandom Directory frame set, if you like. The code for this is
onLoad="if (self != top) top.location.href = self.location.href"
An example of how this would be placed in an HTML BODY tag follows:
<BODY onLoad="if (self != top) top.location.href = self.location.href">
